This page lists known issues and their solutions. If your problem is not resolved then please use the Hardware Maintenance or Software Maintenance forms, or e-mail: JMBending@QinetiQ.com, replacing (at) with @, for assistance, remembering to state what equipment and software versions you have, and who your supplier was.
All Krautkramer/Agfa/GE ANDSCAN R-theta arms are supplied with felt washers protecting the radial-movement bearings from ingress of dust and dirt. However, these bearings are actually sealed, preventing the worst effects of dirt, and the felt washers have the effect of making the arm very difficult to move in and out until the washers are well worn. If your environment is not extremely dusty or dirty then you are unlikely to have any problems if you remove these felt washers. At QinetiQ we do this routinely with new ANDSCAN R-theta arms. However, we do not accept responsibility or liability if you choose to remove the felt washers yourself from your own R-theta arm.

Please report any other hardware problems using the Hardware Maintenance form.
Default Printer not set
This message appears at startup because ANDSCAN needs to obtain the current printer settings. If you do not have a printer installed then there is no default. The best method for avoiding this annoying message is to install a printer driver. It does not have to be a printer that is actually attached to the computer. In some operating systems this is trivial. Try selecting Settings/Printers from the StartUp button on your Windows Taskbar. Then select Add Printer and choose a printer that is the most likely to be connected to your computer. Follow the instructions for loading the driver.
Probe Direction not enabled
If the probe
direction options are not enabled in the menu, this could be because Probe
Direction has not been checked in the Menu/Scanner/Scanner Setup dialog box.
Various criteria have to be fulfilled before motion control options are enabled. Firstly, the motion control DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) for ANDSCAN must be installed together with the appropriate hardware and software drivers for your system. Secondly, ANDSCAN must successfully link to the motion controller on startup. If successful then ANDSCAN will enable the Motion Control Server settings in the Menu/File/ANDSCAN Input Control... dialog box. You may need to select the correct server for your motion controller. In addition, you will need to set the Positional Server. For some scanning systems the positional data comes from the same server as the Motion Controller, but in other systems the positional input is independent. Finally, in Menu/Scanner/Hardware Choice... you need to choose Automated XY and use the Config... button to choose a configuration file for your scanner with the appropriate motion control settings in it.
Weld Inspection options not enabled
These have to be enabled by the vendor or on installation of the software. They are generally disabled for customers who do not wish their operators to have these extra options available. You have several options. First contact the vendor of your software. You can send them the ANDSCAN.INI file from the Windows or WinNT folder on your computer and they will be able to modify it to enable weld inspection options.
Some menu items are not available
Many of these options are only enabled when a box or line has been drawn on the scan using a mouse drag. Others are only enabled after a previous operation. For example -6dB Width and Area measurements require an Average Background measurement before they can be used. In general, instructions are displayed in the status bar if you hover over the menu item.
